Darling ones,

Lock and Load very much enjoyed Don't Look Now at the Film 4 screenings at Somerset House last night. As the sun set we were briefly tormented by swarming insects which were driven away by the freeform jazz stylings of the house DJs as Stephen Frears took the stage on behalf of director Nic Roeg. He made a very interesting point that really resonated with me: that Don't Look Now strove for a real connection with the unconscious. Wonderful.

I think I'll go to this workshop at the Soho Theatre:

Open Access Workshop: Triggers, Gateways, Souvenirs 17 September, 6pm – 9.30pm
£30 (£15)
This workshop, led by Justin Young, explores the moments of transition in your play between realistic and heightened parallel worlds, the patterns of when and why one world gives way to another and how souvenirs from one can crop up in another. A workshop on the kinds of story-telling you can use to suit a variety of stylish environments.

Perfect for: anyone who wants ideas for achieving “lift-off” from the plot-driven play, anyone rewriting who is looking for that special stylistic flourish to make their story stand out, anyone having a hard time identifying their play’s central metaphor, anyone worried their play's style is crowding out the main plot.

The writing is going really well! It can't possibly last...
